Talking about wine... This particular wine opens an another window into the wine universe... A nose that is a little subdued and distant at the beginning. Give this wine a little time and some air.. those kind berries will start chanting at you... and slowly enfold a symphony with depth and emotion. The wine does not invite you but commands you to initiate the ritual tasting. The scent of pencil shavings initiates the ritual like the exuberant turning of a pencil sharpener... But in this case truly exceptional and wonderful.
The color is youthful and straight forward red with minimal brown notes with a light ring like an inverse solar eclipse. The color hypnotises me and initiates the journey of complete obedience. The cocoa lifts the tropical veill that is very much “provence” by the look and sniff of things Excellent”. The tannic structure is build like a miniature Eiffel tour. Elegant but stands very tall in the universe of stellar wines. Once passed the granite pencil shavings doorway a world of happiness awaits with elegant present tannins, aromas and scents of crème de cassis and tobacco accompanying you along the way. The initial provincial herbs and red berries remind you again that youth can be so complex. This wine is ready to drink but not ready to drink. You can keep this for at least 5 – 10 more years if not much more. Forever is the most ungrateful recipient of time. In the quintessence of centuries this wine demands to be drunk with exceptional elegance and virtue as it is so true to its heritage. Chapeau Bandol!
